After B.Tech, what is your carrier plan or objective?. There are many career options, but I would like to describe mainly two career options. The first one is going to higher education. The second one is getting a job. Now, let’s see how the GATE exam is useful to both of the career options.
Eligible criteria:
• Upto 2019 Only students who are pursuing their B. Tech final year are eligible.
• But now in 2020, both 3rd year and 4th-year students are eligible for gate examination.
Chances of attempts:
• Upto 2019, there is a chance to write only one paper per year but from 2020 onwards students are eligible to write 2 papers for 4th year and 4 papers for 3rd year.
• But the primary paper selection is decided by us later another paper should select from the option of papers given.
For example: If we select EC paper as primary then there is a chance to select only physics or instrumentation paper as secondary.
The pattern of Gate Exam:
· Fully Computer Based Test (CBT). It consists of two parts. The first part consists of 35 Marks. The second part consists of 65 Marks. There are only negative marks for MCQ.
• There are 3 types of questions
1.Numerical answer type(NAT)
2.Multiple choice questions(MCQ)
3.Multiple Select Questions(MSQ)
Syllabus:
The syllabus can be downloaded from the official website: https://gate.iitb.ac.in
Exam dates:
· Dates of examination: Friday 5th, Saturday 6th, Sunday 7th, Friday 12th, Saturday 13th, and Sunday 14th February 2021. There are two sessions (forenoon and afternoon) each day.
Highlights of GATE 2021 are:
· Two NEW subject papers are introduced:
1. ES (Environmental Science and Engineering)
2. XH (Humanities and Social Sciences) in Economics / English / Linguistics / Philosophy / Psychology / Sociology. · Total number of subject papers: 27 · Syllabi of all subject papers have been revised for GATE 2021.
· ONE or TWO subject papers allowed. TWO Paper combinations have to be chosen from the given list of combinations of papers. The final allotment of TWO papers will still be subject to the availability of infrastructure and dates.
· Eligibility criteria are relaxed. A Candidate who is currently studying in the 3rd or higher years of any undergraduate degree program OR has already completed any Government approved degree program in Engineering / Technology / Architecture / Science / Commerce / Arts is eligible to appear for the GATE-2021 examination.
· There is NO age limit to appear for the GATE 2021 examination.
· Applications will be accepted ONLINE only through the GATE-2021 website link GOAPS.
· GATE-2021 scorecard will remain valid for THREE years from the date of announcement of results.
· Depending on the COVID-19 situation, the schedule of the GATE 2021 examination may change.
· Due to COVID-19 related international travel restrictions, examinations at the International Centres may be dropped, if the situation is not conductive by end of November 2021. ·

Preparation strategy:
· Don’t start your preparation without perfect strategy, vision & planning.
· You should have a commitment, consistency, hardworking nature, strong desire, and belief in yourself to crack this gate exam.
· It is a very long process so you must have patience. The main intention of this exam is to test your patience.
· After the preparation of strategy, write down the syllabus of this exam which is available on the gate official website.
· Along with the syllabus copy, the previous year question paper should be there on your table.
· After these form a booklist by watching the booklist of previous toppers with the help of the internet.
· Make short notes of each subject individually. Remember that your notes must be precise to revise quickly at the time of exams.
· The notes which you write with your hands are much valuable than any material available on the internet. Make a timetable and follow strictly. Be focused whenever you are in front of books.
