Preparation:
Don’t start your preparation without perfect strategy, vision & planning. You should have a commitment, consistency, hardworking nature, strong desire and belief in yourself to crack this exam. It is a very long process so you must have patience. The main intension of this exam is to test your patience.

After the preparation of strategy, write down the syllabus of this exam which is available on the UPSC official website. Along with the syllabus copy, the previous year question paper should be there on your table. After these form a booklist by watching the booklist of previous toppers with the help of the internet.
Then start your actual preparation with the basic NCERT books, one specialized book followed by value-adding materials like reports by the Government. Make short notes of each subject individually. Remember that your notes must be precise to revise quickly at the time of exams. The notes which you write with your hands are much valuable than any material available on the internet. Make a timetable and follow strictly. Newspaper reading is very important in your preparation to get perfection in current affairs. But don’t spend too much time on it. Be focused whenever you are in front of your books. Don’t read too many books, read books which are necessary. Read one book many times rather than reading many books for one time.

Give equal importance to prelims and mains. If you focus more on answer writing, current affairs before prelims, then it will be easy for you. To crack prelims easily, concentrate more on mock tests. Be ready for mains before prelims. Time management is an important factor in your preparation. For both preparation and exam writing, time management is essential.
